When I first began vaping I started with a basic Ego-T kit. Pretty simple stuff; it had no power adjustment or anything even remotely like that on the battery. It wasn’t long after I started vaping that I remember those spinner batteries that were released where you would twist the bottom to adjust the output voltage. Truth is that I didn’t have many of those cause I had soon moved on to mech mods and genesis atomizers, Then, in time I made the decision to try out a few of the many regulated box mods that were starting to hit the market. I still was mainly using regulated devices in all the glorious different shapes and sizes, except those tube shaped ones. So now I guess it’s about time that I try one.
Quite a few of these kits that have tube shaped batteries have been released lately. They have just one button, no power adjustment, and just need five clicks to turn them on or off. Many of them are big as well, like 22-25 mm diameter, and come with pretty crazy sub-ohm tanks in the kit as well. Some of them are like an ego battery on steroids, with a kick-ass tank that has a normal 510 connection. When I come to think of it, the five clicks on/off and the basic shape is more than likely what is left of the Ego heritage. The Smok Stick V8 kit that I am reviewing now is one of those kits. Its name makes you think of big car engine – so you should expect some serious power from this one, right?

Look and feel
The kit is available in 7 different colors. I myself picked up the black one, which I think looks really good. The device feels pretty solid, with no button rattling whatsoever. The airflow control is nice and smooth It’s not too loose and not too tight. Overall this is a nice looking tube-style kit that appears to be pretty well built.
In use
The Smok V8 kit is indeed very easy to use. This mod has only one button and uses the standard five clicks to turn it on and off. It also has an intelligent battery indicator system that according to the folks at Smok will have the ring around the fire button flash four times whenever you take a puff and fifteen times when your battery is below 3.3V and it needs a charge. For me, the battery seems to last the whole day.
The Smok Baby Beast tank of course has the swivel action top fill system as do all TFV tanks, and works great. It’s easy to refill when you’re on the go with absolutely no risk at all of fumbling and winding up with your top-cap in the toilet. This of course has never happened to me. The airflow control is smooth, and this tank is super- easy to take apart when it comes time for cleaning and changing coils.
Performance
This thing actually performs quite well to be honest. The battery output will depend on the current state of charge of the battery and is said to range from 4.2 to 3.4 V. Then there is also a 20A continuous discharge limit and it gives you 30-45W. The battery delivers a perfect amount of power for the included V8 Baby-M2 Core coils that have been designed for this output system. You will definitely get a lot of vapor and fantastic flavor from this setup, and the battery time is awesome.
The 0.15 Ohm head will give you bigger clouds of course, and the 0.25 will provide you with more flavour. I have to say that I am impressed by how great this kit performs both when it comes to flavor and vapor.
